Question:
I am looking for information on "Vulva Cancer" I went to the OBGYN on
Friday, and the Dr. told me that I had Melanoma on my labia. My regular family
doctor had examined me less than 4 months ago and did not notice anything
unusual.
I have a biopsy scheduled for 2 weeks from now, but in the mean time I would
like to find out more about this type of cancer if I can. I would also like to
find an Oncology GYN Dr. in the San Francisco Bay Area if at all possible. I
would appreciate any help.
Answer:
Vulva melanoma is one of the "mucosal melanoma" types. It is a dangerous
desease. I recommend you seek out a melanoma oncologist immediately.
There is a very good melanoma clinic in SF. Go there at once. Do not
mess around with doctors who know very little about melanoma in general
and most know nothing about mucosal melanoma. It is especially important
that you see a melanoma specialist before they cut this tumor out so
that you can have lymph system mapping done and the tumor can be saved
properly to make vaccines later.
I also suggest you check out the MPIP BB at http://www.mpip.org and that
you join the MEL-L email list of melanoma patients at:
