Question:
I need to observe ultraviolet radiation(frequency: 315nm), but have no
essential equipment.I do not need to get exact data. Can you tell me
how to sense ultraviolet laser in an easy and cheap way.Or which
material can sense ultraviolet radiation(frequency: 315nm)enough
intensely.
Answer:
Somehow I think most lamp phosphors other than red-glowing ones used in
mercury lamps do not do well with 315 nm. But the red-glowing ones in
mercury lamps do seem to utilize 315, and one variety less-used in th
USA even has some response as long as about 360 nm!
My experience is that white cotton underwear and a lot of other white
cotton clothing is normally tinted with a "brightener" which works
throughout the 254-366 nm range, with some good usefulness at least to
about 390 nm. I think that any white paper with a fluorescent brightener
will probably be similar and be able to utilize 315 nm.
