Question:
I have been reading about some of the risk factors for prostate cancer
in the Walsh book (bible) and wondered if the same types of things that put
us at risk for prostate cancer can also put us at risk for other types of
cancer. Does anyone know if there has ever been a study to look at men with
prostate cancer to see if they turn out to develop other types of cancer
later in life? If one clears the hurdle for prostate cancer is that person
still vulnerable for developing another form of cancer?
Not trying to make trouble. Just in week three tethered to Mr. Foley
stuck in this house reading cancer books makes one have strange thoughts.
Catheter comes out Thursday. Hopefully I will get the go ahead to drive and
things will get better (or at least different - I just looked at my box of
Depends briefs).
Answer:
There are certainly some things that MIGHT contribute to PCa that MIGHT
contribute to other cancer. Age is a near certainty. Western diet is
something they suspect and seem to be closing in on proof. Of course, with
so few PCa survivors in the past, there isn't much in the way of latter year
conditions related to the PCa or treatment of PCa. Right now, it's all
pretty much up in the air.
