Question:
I would like to know whether quitting smoking now after 8 years will prevent
cancer? I know it's a silly thing to start but it was good at the time...now
I know better. After seeing family members pass away from certain cancers
it's just too much.
What are the signs of lung cancer? Pains? COughs? .....
Answer:
sputum is also a frequent symptom. Other symptoms include, shortness of
breath, chest, shoulder or arm pain and weight loss. All of these
symptoms can indicate some other problem and do not neccesarily always
indicate cancer. A regular chest xray is still the most frequent way
lung cancer is found. Quitting smoking now cannot prevent cancer
however it definately will decrease your chances of developing lung
cancer. Cigarette smoking is the highest risk factor, it puts you at
the most risk of getting lung cancer. It is definately a good idea to
quit. The other thing to consider is that if there is cancer in your
family let your doctor know which family members and what kinds of
cancers. This will help your doctor watch for any cancers that are
associated with genetics.
