Question:
Is it safe to wear sunscreen or does anyone know if this can cause harm
to the baby? Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid as I have been
throughout my pregnancy, but just wanted to know if others wore it and
their babies turned out ok. My doctor said it's perfectly safe, but
when I checked The Mayo Clinic's drug database on the active ingredients
in sunscreen, it said that there haven't been any studies done on these
chemicals so of course it's making me concerned. Also, the only two
times I've put it on, it's made me feel kind of grossed out. The smell
is REALLY bothering me unlike any season that I've worn it. I've tried
two different brands and both have left an awful taste in my mouth (and
no, I'm not eating it :)!
Answer:
If it makes you feel any better, I know of two sunblocks that have no
chemical sunscreens in them. The first is Neutrogena for Sensitive Skin,
which is titanium dioxide only, and the other is Mustela, which is a
titanium dioxide and zinc oxide sunblock. The latter is rather pricey,
though. You should be able to find both on the net. I can remember
Neutrogena's web page, but the other is http://www.mustela.com
