Question:
Its that time of the year for us ..coming into spring.
One of the things I have to do is check out a good sunblock, as I have fair
skin.
One product that has caught my attention is an AUSTRALIAN product.
For my Australian surfing cobbers out there.
Have you tried HAMILTON SUNSCREENS ..particularly Watersport ?
www.hamiltonlabs.com.au
Have you had good results ?
Do you use other products you can recomend.
The other question is the active ingredients....does any one have any info
on what ingredients to look out for....which you shouldnt use ?
Answer:
I am fair-skinned too, and balding (sorry to say). In the heat of the day I use
a long-sleeved lycra shirt and a very well designed hat for surfing which has
flaps that cover the ears connecting to an adjustable strap that goes under
the chin. It's also got a velcro adjustment strap for behind your head. I've
used a hat like this for several years, and it has NEVER come off, even in the
worst wipe-out. The only remaing exposed parts are my face, hands, and from the
knees down. For that I use either Coppertone Sport "ultra waterproof" SPF 30,
or Aloegator.
This way you save a lot of time getting prepared to go out, and $ on sunscreen.
My dermatologist thinks by far it's the safest way to go. (I am 55 and have
already had a few pre-cancerous lesions burned off). One of the Waikiki
lifeguards spotted my hat a couple of days ago and was very interested where he
could get one (no, he wasn't putting me on!). I can't remember the brand name
or company, other than it is manufactured in California, in the San Diego area
I believe.
If I'm out very early or very late in the day, or if there's a heavy overcast,
I might use a short sleeve lycra shirt, and ditch the hat, using sunscreen on
my head and ears instead.
