Question:
In my area during the day, when I will now be swimming outdoors, the UV can
reach a 9. (very high)
I would be out in the water for over an hour. I am a typical white male.
What SPF sunscreen would protect me for that long in the water?
Answer:
The highest you can get (UV very high, white skin, plus water
reflection). With a 9 you are advised to stay inside between 10am and
4pm, you are not thinking about swimming at that time of the day, are
you?
Have you considered wearing a sun protective swimsuit (UPF 50+,
chlorine resistant if needed)? Easy to put on, less sunscreen on
yourself and in the pool,... They come in different colors, shapes and
sizes, for example by:

(there should be some retailer in US as well)
And yes, people will look and ask - but protecting skin is much more
important than being cool.
