Question:
Has anyone had any luck with conservative treatment of malignant oral
melanoma? I made one of the most difficult calls of my life today, to tell
my parents that their dog has a malignant oral melanoma. I of course spoke
to them about removing the regionally affected lymph node, and doing chest
radiographs, and then potentially moving onto a maxillectomy; however,
Muffin is 15 years old, and I don't think they're going to be receptive to
such an aggressive course of treatment.
So, how about it - anyone have any experiences or luck with conservatively
treating this type of cancer?
Answer:
I do not know the answer to your question but I read something very
interesting. It was an article about Czar, the Siberian tiger at the
Portland Oregon Zoo. It died on August 8th, 2000 of melanoma. I had no
idea animals could get melanoma. I don't know why they wouldn't, I
guess...I was just surprised.
