Question:
I correspond with a woman who is imprisoned in a foreign
country. She thinks she might suffer from skin cancer because
she has a spot on her shoulder which looks like melanoma, and
there are many more on her arms, back and chest which look
suspicious. She has noticed that the growth has changed color
and is "raised and sort of split". Thanks to the efforts of a
local humanitarian group, a biopsy has been scheduled to take
place in 3-4 weeks. What questions would you recommend I ask
her in order to find out more about her condition?
The woman is of northern European origin, with a light
complexion, but she hardly spends any time in the sun.
Answer:
If she's having a biopsy done, then this is the most important thing. You
should get someone else to check all over her skin and mucous membranes.
She obviously can't do it entirely successfully by herself.
