Question:
I visited a Skin Restoration Clinic today - because I was initially interesed
in micro-dermabrasion. The person I consulted with did not examine my skin,
just asked what I was interested in working on. I told her I would like to
improve my skin's appearance by eleminating brown spots, some bumps, and fine
lines.
She told me I needed to get on the Obagi products which included about 8 tubes
of things: cleanser, toner, strong RetinA(1% - red tube), sunscreen, some other
things to use weekly or 2x weekly. All together it would cost $350. A
micro-derm is $150 ea. She told me I would not get very mild results with the
micro-derm and much more satisfactory results by using these products.
I really need some more information about these products and the results I
could expect....
Answer:
This is a toughie, because I would have to see your skin to really know.
Microdermabrasion works for a number of complaints, including what you
mentioned. However, the Obagi system also works well for some. It is an
expensive system and can be quite strong for some. In the end the results
are worth it, if it works for you. Unfortunately it might not work for you
:( Try someplace else, and make sure she looks at your skin under the
magnifying lamp. A thorough analysis is crucial in setting up a regime and
set of recommendations. Personally I think a bleaching agent with the
microdermabrasion might be your best bet. I have been doing the micro for 6
months now and the best results I have seen are on those with the worst
skin. That makes sense of course! Just don't have unrealistic expectations.
The treatments will improve your skin, but it is not a miracle treatment.
