Could the melanoma reapear during pregnancy?

Question:
I've a young woman patient who had a nodular melanoma (II) four years ago. Could the melanoma reapear during pregnancy?. Is there any problem if she get pregnant?

Answer:
I believe that my wife's melanoma (superficial spreading) started during her pregnancy (we can't remember for sure). Obviously, this isn't statisically valid by itself.

Estrogen may accelerate the growth of some melanomas. On the otherhand, any melanoma can recur more than 5 years port diagnosis (regardless of pregnancy). Should this happen, you are left with chosing abortion or limiting your medical options until after the baby is born.
