Question:
Yesterday's WQXR radio health report was on melanoma survivors. It said
they tend to later develop other internal cancers/tumors in about 15 years.
They were recommending that these people not be given steroids.
Can anybody provide more details? I'm especially interested in the citation
of the article.
Answer:
This is not new news. In Melanoma patients who have had mets and
have survived 5+ years (if memory serves me correctly, this is only about
10%). It is known that there could be a reoccurrence 10, 15, 20, ...,
years
down the road. This is the reason that Melanoma patients are never
consider cured, no matter how much time has elapsed.
My Oncologist just had a melanoma patient with a reoccurrence after
25 years. I would like to know the statistics on these, however, I have
been unable to find any. I myself have been in remission for 13 years,
however, I constantly remain aware of these facts
