Question:
Last fall, my mother was also diagnosed with intraocular melanoma
of the choroid. She opted for the radioactive plaque, and she and her
doctors have been pleased with the results. She was treated at
Duke Medical Center in Durham.
I would also like to know if anyone else out there has any experience
with this rare disease.
Answer:
I'm a 39 year old female who is a 9 year survivor of intraocular
melanoma. I'd be more than happy to talk with anyone going through the
diagnosis or treatment of this INTERESTING disease! I've had
enucleation and don't for one second regret it. There are lots of
emotions, decisions, etc. associated with cancer and, I believe,
especially this cancer.
Unsolicited advice (call or write for more!): Always get your
pathology reports and test results HARD COPY and keep a file of them.
It is up to YOU and no one else to be responsible for your health.
Find out your cell type. This is critical! Whether you are spindle,
epithelial or A, blah blah, blah, will impact many things.
Ok, I'll stop there, but please feel free to write.
