Question:
A couple of weeks ago I went to a dermatologist for a check up. They found a suspicious looking mole (about 6mm)
and removed it for biopsy. The doctors office called me back to tell me that the biopsy found the mole to be non-
cancerous but "irregular" (or "unusual" or some such adjective), and that I would need to come in for a wide excision
of
the area. Does anyone know if wide excisions are normal practice for non cancerous moles? I was under the
impression that they were usually reserved for melanoma. Being in the US, one always has to consider the possibility
that business is just slow at the office. Do wide excisions leave permanent scars?
Answer:
There are moles which are pre-cancerous. It sounds like you have a competent doctor.
