Question:
Would appreciate any information on treating melanoma in grey horses.
Answer:
Melanoma is very common in grey horses and are almost alway benign. They
can occur anywhere in the skin. Common locations include under the tail.
In the sheath.
For most cases no treatment is reccomended. If the melanoma gets to big
or begins to form a physical obstruction than surgical removal is the
treatment of choice. I personally have taken off a melanoma the size of
a grape fruit off the tail of a grey horse. It was ulcerating and
causing discomfort to the horse.
However, in most cases a reccomend no action.
