Question:
I have been diagnosed with an eye melanoma (choroidal melanoma) and I am
trying to obtain information on treatment options. It is my understanding the
two treatments available are implanting a radioactive disk in the eye and
proton therapy. I would appreciate any information on both treatments.
Answer:
Check out the NCI (National Cancer Institute's) Website. There you can
get more info on melanoma, in particular choroidal melanoma. Also there
are two good sites on melanoma in general:
-Steve Dunn's Cancerguide
-Jeff Patterson's Melanoma Patient's Information Page.
Also there is a 'chat'-type list called MEL-L that is informative, although
few on that list have ocular melanoma. Info on MEL-L is available on
the Melanoma Patient's Information Page.
My mother just lost her eye to melanoma and I have done a fair amount of
digging up of material. You don't say what size of tumour or location etc,
and that is important in deciding what options may be pursued. If you want
more info, email me privately, if you like and I can tell you where I've
gone for info etc.
